Travelling in Spanish (Spanish tips)

There are many places in Latin America where people are not familiarized with English. Even when it comes to tourism, sometimes you will have to figure out how to buy a ticket or book a hotel room using only Spanish. If you don´t know the right words, there is a chance you end up sharing a bathroom with 10 people or travelling in the back of a pick up. Take a look at these words that you will need for sure if you are looking for a place to stay:

– Reservarto bookReserva: booking, reservation.

– Habitación simple: single room

                               doble: twin room

                               doble con cama matrimonial: double room

                               tripletriple room

 Dormi (compartido con n personas):  dorm (shared with n people)

– Con/ sin baño privado: with private bathroom/ with shared bathroom

– Con/ sin servicio de habitación: with/ without room service

– Con/ sin desayuno: breakast included/ breakfast not included

– Media pensiónthe service includes breakfast and one meal.

Pensión completathe service includes breakfast and two meals.

– Traslado del aeropuerto/ al aeropuerto: transfer from and to the airport.

And if you are looking for a bus, train or plane ticket…

– Autobús/ Ómnibus/ micro: bus

– Tren/ ferrocarril: train

– Avión: plane.

– Pasaje: ticket.

– Pasaje  de ida y vuelta: round- trip ticket

                    sólo ida: one-way ticket

– Vuelo directo (= sin escalas): direct flight.

– Asiento: seat

ventanilla: seat by the window

pasillo: aisle seat

– Partida: departure

– Llegadaarrival

– Plataforma: platform

– Terminal de tren o de micro: train or bus station

– Parada (de micro): bus stop

– Estación (de tren): train stop
